Three adolescent males gather on an outdoor basketball court. Two of them exchange a friendly handshake grip, while the third looks on.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation hosted Strategies to Reduce Gun Violence: Part 2, a free webinar on gun violence reduction strategies, with a focus on violence intervention and interruption. The webinar helps youth justice practitioners, community service providers, local government partners and law enforcement workers to better understand their role in such initiatives. The session is a companion to a 2023 webinar on gun violence prevention.

This webinar is an abbreviated version of the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) training on building a sustainable strategy for gun violence reduction. In addition to discussing how to identify individuals at high risk for immediate involvement in gun violence, presenters shared near-term interventions for reducing gun violence, including:

  • life coaching;
  • street outreach; and
  • effective messaging and engagement.

NICJR was joined by YouthALIVE!, a nonprofit direct service provider in Oakland, California, that works with youth and young adults who are involved in gun violence.

Presenters
